Estimating profit margins for a new business?

Question

I'd heard that there may be some census data that shows average net profit margins per industry by SIC code. I'd looked on Census.gov with not much luck. Wondering if anyone may know where to find this?

im not sure but most new business in the first year do not make a profit.

quite often in the first 5 years they only start to come out of the red
