I am a new mom that has a hard time finding cute fabric head bands for my baby (3 mths). I decided to start creating my own. Now I have other people that are interested and will buy from me. I am also going to be a vendor at a craft show in the fall where I can sell them.

My problem is that I cannot find an easy way to create these. How do I get them to fit ? I know circumference of babies head based on how old. However, I cannot seem to be able to sew fabric on elestic so that they fit right. Some come out too small and others too big.

I would like to make both "smooth" fabric ones and "bunched" fabric. Maybe I am using the wrong fabric?

Anyone know a good pattern or have any ideas???

When my daughter was little, I used stretch lace to make her headbands, then embellished them with bows and the like.

You probably could make a fabric band for the top and then use stretch lace or a tube of swimsuit fabric on the back to provide stretch.

For bigger girls, I take sheer ribbon from the store and elastic. I take the sheer ribbon and fold it in thirds around the elastic and sew the edge down - when I flip it, the elastic is encased in the ribbon, and I do that on both sides. I don't see why something like that couldn't be done for a small baby - no rough edges.

Another thought is to take 2 long pieces of knit that have had a rolled hem edge attached to them, place them one on top of the other to make a ruffle of sorts, then sew them onto a stretched piece of thinner stretch lace with a 3 step zig zag (for stretch) - I think that might be similar to some I've seen in the stores for bigger girls...

well you may want to use elastic, or you can use velcro, to adjust the headbands
