Will running an anti-virus scan detect or remove keyloggers?

Sometimes. Some keylogging programs are considered legit and used for valid reasons. These companies have convinced the AV/AS companies to ignore their programs.

Most legit Keylogger programs are very expensive and, therefore, avoided by the average scumbags. The cheaper keylogger programs are usually considered spyware and can be detected. This is not a sure fire thing.

There is a program that can detect them. It does not remove them. Keyloggers usually take major step to prevent removal and can be difficult. This usually means special programs or manual method. Once you know the name of a keylogging program you can do a Google search. Sites that have removal procedures or programs will be displayed. This is usually your best chance of removal.

thay can but this is what i do and it works

restart your computer. hit the f8 key untill you get a list, scroll down to safe mod. this will start the same but its in safe mod so if you have a virus thay can't see nor do anything to stop you.

when it loads run all scans you got.

i recomend norten/samantec, spybot search and destroy, and addaware.

if you wanna pay buy spywear doctor or spy sweeper.


also why the scans are runing go to controll panel and delete the program that is the virus. unlessyou can't see it.

leave this up to scans. when the scans are done hit "controll alt delete" go to process then end all process.

restart your computer and it should be fixed.


i recomend downloading zone alarm. this will make it harder on any virus.

if this doesnt fix the problum take it to your local computer shop.

hi, keylogger is a disgusting and infamous virus. perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

Virus is different from Spyware. Keyloggers are spyware so you need anti-spyware like lavasoft to remove and detect keyloggers.

Don't think "keyloggers" fall into the virus category, although your antivirus program may stop the intrusion. They are more like hackers.

If you are in WindowsXP, do you have the Windows Firewall on?
(Start, Settings, Control Panel, Windows Firewall)

Be sure you don't have two firewalls on - one is enough.

Depends. If it built within a trojan or a rootkit, then standard AV software may not detect it, you may need to get an Anti-Rootkit detector. Otherwise, most AV programs will detect it.
