I am 15 and am thinking about going to a gyno for my bad menstrual cramps. What do they do? Will they tell my mom if I shave down there? Does it hurt? I would get a woman doctor. I have never had sex before and if they prescribe me birth control for my cramps I dont want my parents to think im having sex.

They won't tell your mom anything.
It is a privacy policy between doc and patient.
Does it hurt?
Well it is uncomfortable, but if you relax it will go more smoothly.
You just flat out tell your parents that you need the hormone control pills to stop your cramps. Identify the pills that way, instead of calling them birth control.
What do they do?
We do a breast exam as well as pelvic exam.
Look at the outside first, then insert a specula to look inside the vaginal canal. Take a pap smear sample, then pull out the specula.
Next is the bimanual, with two fingers we check both ovaries and the uterus.
Then you are all done.
There will be lots of questions that you need to answer honestly before and during.
Then during the exam the doc may show you the different parts of your anatomy.
Good luck.

It's a good idea to see your doctor if you are having bad menstrual cramps. There are medications they can prescribe that will really reduce the severity of the cramps.
No, they won't tell your mom if you shave. I'm sure your parents will understand that the birth control is for cramps. It might not be a bad idea to bring your mom to the appointment, either. My mom went to my first gyno visit with me, and it helped having her there.
First off, the doctor will probably ask you some questions about your period and any sexual activity. The doctor might do a pregnancy test (you get to pee in a cup) before they prescribe birth control (don't take offence, they do that with everyone). The actual vaginal exam (if they do one - they don't always do one if your only problem is cramps and you are not sexually active yet) may hurt a little bit, but they will use the smallest instruments available and it shouldn't hurt too bad. If it does, you can always tell the doctor to stop.
Hope this helps! Your mom might be a better source of information than anonymous strangers on the internet, though.

First of all here is a remedy that almost all doctors will tell you to try if you are not allergic to Ibuprofen: Start taking an ibuprofen tablet 3 times a day 3 days before your period, take the same dose during the period, and 3 days after your period. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory that will reduce your cramping during your period. They will also ask you to try warm bath ( kinda gross, but if they are bad enough you will try this) to reduce cramps and believe it or not exercise and stretching exercises.
If you go and have a pap done at your doctors all info is confidential BUT many doctor's offices will not accept under 16 year old patients without parent's approval/ parent present!!! I would go to the health department because this is less hassle- they can do the exam and contact a dr to help you if "home remedies" wont help. All info you give them is confidential- it would not matter if your pubes were the color green , they cannot tell anyone!!! It is not the most comfortable thing in the world, but since you are a virgin --> make sure they know this!!! They should be extra gentle with you. What they usually do is ask questions about your period and their character and the problems you are having. Be honest with them, because that is the only way you get the help you need. If they do go ahead and do the pelvic exam, this is what happens:
You will be asked to put on a gown that is open from the front, and usually a lap sheet to keep you covered. The doc will exam your breasts to make sure you dont have any unusual lumps or pain. If they do a vaginal exam, a speculum that looks like "duck's peak" will be inserted in your vagina. This can be uncomfortable and cause some mild discomfort, let them know if you are hurting! They do use lubrication to make it less uncomfortable for you. They will do this to visualize your cervix and make sure you dont have infection or polyps in there. This only takes few seconds and is over before you know it.
If you do get pills for your cramps, especially if you have irregular period, they more than likely will have samples of BC pills for you. If your parents would find out I would ask a letter saying why you had them or have your doc to tell them why you started on them. I hope you got rid of the cramps!!!

My dear girl, these questions you should be addressing with your mother. She of all people should understand your menstrual cramps and understand how to help control them. She has gone through the same thing you are going through now. Except maybe when she was your age she didn't have the B/C to help her out. She understands that B/C helps relieves the cramping pains.

You are at the right age to have a check up of your body. Believe me, she has gone through this same thing when she was a girl. She was 15 you know, I know it is hard to believe but she was. You need your mother for this type of thing for support. Believe in her she will be with you and answer your questions and support you.

It is your boyfriend you don't want to tell you are on B/C. I remember when I was dating my wife and I had to take her to the doctors for her menstrual cramps. She was in terrible shape. The Doctor examined her and gave her the pills, but she never to me until we were married a short time later. Good thing too...LOL

Well anyway, it is your mom, she is the expert on this. Good Luck

Just tell your parents if they prescribe birth control for cramps. The doctor should not tell your parents anything. It doesn't hurt. It's a little uncomfortable but it only lasts a couple of minutes. They explain everything they are about to do...good luck...

Biggest tip, relax when you are at the docs. It makes things a lot less stressful. Make sure you go to a doc that is highly recommended by either your friends or family as having a good bed side manner. Your mother will be able to discuss any prescriptions that the doc suggests you take and the reason for their use, so don't worry.

Here is an article I found that will help you prepare for what the doc will probably do at your first check up, since you are a teenager. I hope this helps and good luck!

Frist off they cant tell your mom nothing about it other than things like you hurt yourself or something, dont be scared its really nothing...they will do a pap smear which is where they put this long q-tip thing into you and it only take a couple seconds and talk to you about some thigs its really not a big deal, but if you are having bad cramps you really need to go!

You will be weighed, have blood pressure and pulse check, etc. You will go to the exam room. The nurse will talk to you about your first exam and what to expect. You will be asked to undress from the waist down. The doctor will come in and talk to you and tell you what is is going to do. She will place a speculum into your vagina to "spread the vagina open. Then she will remove the speculum. The she will place 2 fingers into your vagina and press on your abdomen. Your doctor will decide how to treat your cramps.

When it's over you'll probably wonder what you were so worried and anxious about. And your mom probably shaves down there to, so, like she would care? Your parents aren't going to think your having sex cause you're on birth control anymore than they would think your pregnant because you take prenatal vitamins. Lots of girls take prenatal vitamins cause they are good for you, not cause they're pregnant. And if I was your dad I would be glad to know you were on birth control cause god forbid you get raped or something like that?

They will tell you anything before they tell your parents (unless a parent is in the room with you), if they prescribe BC then you will just have to tell your parents why and if they dont belive you that will be their problem.
