Yes, this is completely normal, especially if you bought them recently. This is both a dominance and a hormonal behaviour. If they're new to the cage, then they'll probably squabble a bit (including the "humping" lol) until a leader is chosen. They'll probably repeat this everytime the other one decides it wants to be boss, and/or every time they go through their cycle (basically like going into heat, but not as dramatic as it is in cats and dogs)/

I would double check for sure that they're both girls, just to be safe, but even if they are females then yes, that's normal :D

Congrats on the rats! They make great pets.

Yes this is normal rat behaviour. Rats do this to establish dominance. Usually the one being humped is the less dominant one. You can tell if your rat is on heat by scratching the bass of her tail (on her back) she will lay flat and even "buzz" this is when she wiggles her ears and vibrates, This is real I have had my females do it. Im also a member of the Australian Rodent Fanciers Society Queensland. For more info email me!

Yes this is normal behavior. It is a show of dominance from your rats. It happens in all animals despite their gender or if they are neutered or not.

Trust me, you would rather them hump each other than for them to fight a lot to establish dominance.

I work in a pet store & see this behavior often.

It can happen. Hormones go mad in all animals. I have a female chicken that decided to hump another hen recently. Now she is sitting on a nest and wont get off. Tell me THAT isnt hormones gone wild! lol

There a lot like dogs; if there female they hump each other to show dominance, if there were male they might be just horny.
