Having a tough skin means that your feelings are not easily hurt.
Insults, teasing, etc. do not penetrate your skin to reach your heart.

ANTM?

Tough skin is just that. Tough skin.

The best way to get it is to rub your skin against things or get cut up and scarred up a lot.
For example, I swung a pick-axe all summer once, digging holes and crap for a construction company, and I got blisters all over my tender little hands. But once the dirt had embedded itself into my ever healing hands, I realized that my skin was tough as heck, and I wasn't getting that many blisters anymore.

Working with bricks and mortar works best for maximum toughness, but watch out that the lyme doesn't get into your blood when you get cut.

I don't know what ANTM is, but when I was a kid Sears uses to have a brand of close called "tough skin" and they were guarenteed to last or you could return them stains wholes and all and get a new pair. They were geek ware but you know how parents are!!
