Their chances of getting into the postseason are almost gone now. They've really been slow lately.
But if they get Varitek, Wakefield, Manny and a whole bunch of guys off of the DL they'll very much be back alive in the races. When they had a full healthy crew they were the official kick-a** team of the AL, but without them they've had to acquire many minor league guys really early and trade around for Javy Lopez. But if no one had gotten hurt in the first place they'd probably be in the exact opposite position with the Yankees in the AL East.

Unfortunately, for Bostonians everyone the Red Sox are done. They don't have enough pitching to hang in there. They are 6 1/2 games behind the Yankees and either the Twinkies or Chisox will win the wildcard so that leaves no room for the Red Sox. Sorry

As a Boston fan, I would have to say that the chances of the Red Sox going to the playoffs is very remote. Even Joe Castiglione, the long time Red Sox radio announcer, said as much on ESPN radio last week. But take heart, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Manny Del Carmen, Craig Hansen, Jonathan Papelbon, Dayson Gabbard are going to be one hell of a pitching staff some day. This was the rebuilding year. The guys on WEEI could not admit it, but Theo had no choice. It was fun leading the AL East while it lasted. Go A's, Go Tigers, Go Twins, go whoever plays the Yankees.

If a steak was as 'done' as the Boston Red Sox, you wouldn't stick a fork in it. You wouldn't put a little A1 on it. You'd just throw it in the garbage... and order chinese food.
I heard that Larry Lucchino is lobbying to change the team's name to "The Boston Dead Sox", because they're floating belly up like my old goldfish.

I am an avid Red Sox fan. I think this season is history for them. Recently poor pitching, combined with key injuries, makes it unlikely they will make the playoffs this year. They have already fallen way off the pace. That is the bad news. The good news is that those of us in Red Sox Nation will never abandon our team. We will continue to root for them, show up for the games, and cheer for them to do well.

Stick a fork in them.
I just hope that someone smashes a line drive off of Shilling's forehead as an exclamation point.

You're a little late, the fork was stuck in the Red Sox a week ago.

No boston is not done. They are a great team and they will catch on fire real soon. They got a real good starting rotation that just has to put it together real soon. David and Manny are going to carry this team back into contention and make things happen just watch it play it,

Get Veritek back and things HAVE to improve. I mean, all I can think about is how the spiral really went after we found out how long he'd be out. As a Cubs AND a BoSox fan, my motto is never say never, and we're not out until we're mathematically eliminated.

They're beyond done. Turn out the lights, the party's over. They have about 5 weeks to dust the golf clubs off.
