Class. Everyone you know is a member of a certain class. Foremost would be the Class-A types. Losers would be at the bottom. People are more comfortable around members of their own class. Within each class, their are various sub-groups, but class is the biggest divider. Even bigger than race in my opinion, contrary to your assumption that race is the biggest divider.
If you're talking on a global scale, then distance would be the biggest divider, followed by cultural divisions.

Fear, selfishness, lies and greed are the 4 main dividers of of people. If we could get rid of these, neither race, politics, nor religion would be divisive.
Also, if people actually believed and followed, "all" of the teachings of Jesus and His apostles in the Bible there would be no divisiveness among people.
Oops! I forgot. In addition to the teachings of Jesus; if all people who are Jews believed and followed the teachings in the Tanach, if all people who called themselves Buddhists believed and followed the teachings of the Buddha, If all Hindus believed and followed the teachings of the Vedas, and if all Taoists believed and followed the teachings of Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching; we would all get along together quite well.
It is only the teachings of the Koran that say it is OK and good to kill and enslave the people that are not Muslims. I'm sorry, but if anyone takes the time to read the Koran they will see that I'm telling the truth.

Fear! Its the common denominator of all that has been listed here. We fear the unknown, the unexpected. We fear being helpless, we fear being moneyless, we fear being wrong. we surround ourselves with the safe, in our neighborhoods, our work surroundings, our friends, our church. We fear the different. A study was done at a major university, the set-up was simple and straight forward. A small theater was filled with the hook, a group fo pre-informed students who knew what the test was. A film of Hitler was played and at the end, all had to stand and cheer and salute 'Zieg Heil'! The test subject was brought in and sat among the crowd. The results, 98% sat through the film, 70% cheered at the end along with the crowd. Fear! Fear of being the lone voice to stand up and say, hey, this is wrong. We need a little more courage or we are destined to always be herded like sheep.

I think religion. Probably a bigger divider than race. Although some go hand in hand.

The big Three have been named -- race, religion, and politics.
Money only divides shallow, thoughtless, greedy people. If you are content, it doesn't matter that someone else has four hundred million times as much as you.

They're all the same really. Religion, sterotypes, gender, age, political party, everything. People hate difference and standing out of the crowd so anything that isn't normal to them seems too different to tolerate so we all divide amoung ourselves.

You know you answered your own question. I think your right. i think both the issues you mentioned divide people but i also feel that is sad. It doesn't say much for us humans. But in an effort to lighten this up a bit. I'm going to choose SPORTS.
