Won't people admit America has done some pretty bad things in it's past. I think most people will admit that. First there was slavery, that was bad, the Civil War was bad, exterminating indians was bad. The CIA has even admitted that they had done some pretty bad things. Covert is the word I think they use.
Didn't we first go in to Iran after the British started having problems with them over the oil? We helped them elect a new leader that they weren't too happy with. I think they're still mad at us for that. Did we ever apologize for that?
How about Cuba? Were they really so bad we couldn't talk to them for forty years. They offered us free medicine after hurricane Katrina. They were once a U.S. possession. We gave them their independence, didn't we? What happened there?
Do you think we should apologize to Cuba too?
Can America ever be wrong about anything? How can people be so sure of themselves. I sure wish I was that sure of myself.

Artisttree: I don't know what you're talking about, "dragging us back through history". Aren't we are living history right now?

cuttlekid: I was talking about America. Read the question again. And aren't you being a bit of an apologist yourself? Bringing up the worst of other countries trying to make America look good? Whats that? Shouldn't we be better?

hey, nice subject, but read your history. I'll leave you a little historical reminder in the source. The united states is one of the countries with the fewest colonial, commonwealths, or protectorate holdings in relative comparison with the rest of the world. But that's history, enough of that, that's undeniable. Lets talk about Cuba, being an ex-Cuban, I know a little about the subject. Notice I said ex since I am now and always will be an American. I'm that worse type of American you can imagine. The one that not by a twist of fate in birth but by a conscious decision wants to be one. One that actually loves and believes that we are actually very close to being the land of the free and the home of the brave. Yeah, and an ex-marine. One that with no remorse says the Cubans are actually where they want to be. Hell, if a little man in diapers called Gandhi chased the Brits out of India, in this world anything is possible! Cuba is a cult of personality. You think that they are socialist? Please! Now, lets talk about doing bad things as you put it. Bad like killing 6 million bad, oh that was the Germans, bad like killing 4 million, oh that was Stalin. bad like killing two million, oh that was the 8 year war between Iraq and Iran in the 80's. Bad like taking over a country and making it disappear, oh that was China and the take-over of Tibet. bad like that. Or Africa, going on right now as I write. Ojukwu in Nigeria, Dr. Sauimbe in Angola, the Sudan, Mobutu in the D. Rep. of Congo, Bozize in the Cent. Afr. Republic. Do you even know that people are dying in Africa? No, I don't think we have to apologize to anyone. We are stained with the same historical shame of every single country in history. But in truth, we don't even rank in the top 10 for apologetic situations.

No reason to apologize. It is Iran trying to set itself up as a righteous defender of the Islamic world in efforts to destroy us, Israel, and a lot of the non-Islamic thinking countries..all in the name of religion. We came to their aid during earthquake relief efforts, and got little thanks for it. America can be wrong, yes, but not on this point of trying to neutralize efforts of terrorism sponsored largely by Iran and Syria. Cuba's problem is much more different, since they are trying to cling to Communism as much as North Korea and their leaders have become little more than despots. Live in the present, forget about the Civil War, and Indian Wars. Get over it and get with the present dangers.

I think you should apologize to us for your ignorance concerning the generosities bestowed upon these undeserving and unappreciative countries that you name in your statement. We owe nothing to these countries you name. The generosity of America is immeasurable. The atrocities that occur in other countries would make your skin crawl. America is not perfect but is by far a great country. Whatever wrongs we have suffered through have given us a new sense of understanding and have given us the ability to grow as a country. We can't allow people like you to drag us back through history in order to denigrate America. If you want to dig back through history then dig back through the history of these countries that you think we should apologize to. Learn how barbaric and backwards they are. Then come back and tell us how appreciative these countries should be to us!

Only if they apologize for enslaving the Jews in Babylonian times. How far back do you want to take this ?? You sound like my ex-wife, always dragging up ancient history that has long been decided, instead of trying to improve the future !! Gripe, gripe, nag, nag. When does the past become the past ??

We can appologize to Iran . Japan can do it to China and the USA. Britain can appologize to all of it's former colonies. Spain to all it's colonies.Wait ,we didn't invent slavery now did we? In fact we were some of the first to abolish it. Hmmm ,and the Muslims in Sudan still have slavery don't they? Iran infact has caused more trouble than we ever even considered causeing. So who wants to start the great healing session here. Group hug everyone, Big group hug. Arghhhhh Fidel Noooo put away that gun .It's just freedom of expression, that's all I swear. Bang bang. With liberty and justice for all.LMAO.

It is obvious why you can't be as sure of yourself as the US. You are not a politician. You also appear to lack a sense of perspective.

Not worth the trouble explaining. Just internalize the fact that the US and whatever administration is in power at the time is, by definition, RIGHT. Not a little right. Not mostly right. 100% right. You disagree? Who cares? By definition you are therefore wrong.

So simple.

Boy, I'll bet you're glad you got all of that off your bleeding heart, liberal, pacifist, terrorist sympathizing, anti-American chest!

Of course America has made mistakes. It's real easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. It's quite different when you're in the pocket and there's five or six 300 pound defensemen trying to rip your head off.

Yeah, I think we should apologize - on our knees and begging for forgiveness - immediately after the Islamic community shows just a tiny bit of outrage over what the terrorists are doing in the name of their God - rather than the huge outrage over a couple of cartoons and death threats to all infidels!

We should invade Iran before we do anything.

Cuba is not that interesting any longer although they do have some tasty cuisine. They were very relevant about 40 years ago and it's very nice of them to let us keep those Afghan detainees there. We may need more space from the them to hold the various Iranians we capture.

Sure, we've done bad things, and it's not always easy to be sure about anything. But one thing is for sure: Mahmoud Amahdinjad and his overlords are bad men, and allowing them to get their hands on nuclear weapons is a very, very bad idea.
