To Find the nth term we use the formula
Tn=a+(n-1)d
where
a = first term
n = number of term
d = difference
and
Tn = nth term
therefore
Tn=(-5)+(n-1)(+4)
Tn=(-5)+4n-4
Tn=4n-9
--------------------
CHECK:
--------------------
for n=1, Tn= 4(1)-9 = 4-9 = -5
for n=2, Tn= 4(2)-9 = 8-9 = -1
for n=3, Tn= 4(3)-9 = 12-9 = 3
for n=4, Tn= 4(4)-9 = 16-9 = 7

Assuming -5 is the first term, then
1st term = -9 + 4 = -9 + 1 x 4
2nd term = -9 + 8 = -9 + 2 x 4
3rd term = -9 + 12 = -9 + 3 x 4
...
nth term = -9 + 4n
