Not in any state I know of! Most states have laws that say your car can not produce more decibles than the factory muffler. Since most cops don't carry around DB meters or books with DB's listed, you probably won't get a ticket unless you car is too loud. No muffler is going to be too loud!

Here in Va, I can issue you a valid vehicle safety approval sticker if you do not have a muffler installed, as long as the exhaust system has no leaks. But, it is illegal to operate the motor vehicle on the highway without a muffler, so the man can give you a ticket for it, even if I pass it at my inspection station.

no it is not illeagle you do not need a muffler the law says it has to have the converter but does not need a muffler as long as there are no leaks and the pipes are run all the way to the back of the car it will pass inspection some states might say something if it is real loud but if you run the pipe to the back it is not going to be that loud

No it not legal. (unless it under QQ tags, which means it a hot rod or mucle car and QQ's means it doesn't have to be inspected) I think that if the 5.0 catches you without a muffler (or maybe it a catlytic converters) Its a big fine
