I'm sure the bill is from Yugoslavia. It was printed in 1981 and has the series BA 0876082. I've seen pictures of it in internet and it ooks authentic but when I touch it is very thin (500 pound bond paper-like) although somewhat textured and has no watermarks or laser markings. Maybe I'm just too used to Canadian bills but I would still like to know if there's a way to prove it is authentic.

I really don't think anyone would counterfeit the 500 Dinara note. Inflation made the note almost useless. You would have needed a lot to buy something. As early as 1996 it took 5,034 new Dinara to make a buck and you have one that was demonetized. It is not a valuable collectors item either. There are few countries that have the quality of paper money, as the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. I must also not forget the Euro. In times of inflation the quality of the paper money suffers. A true world paper money collector/ dealer could help, if he/she saw your note. I collect U.S., world coins and some notes. Any old coin dealer will not do. Strange things have been counterfeited, but I don't think your note is one of them. Yugoslavia is no more, so no help there. It is real. By the way I also collect Canadian Tokens from the 1800's.

I would suggest taking it to a professional coin dealer - someone who specializes in World Banknotes. Most dealers will be happy to tell you if it is authentic or not without charging you for an appraisal.
