It hurts me to see how our people suffered. I think everyone expected help to come immediately but cheers to all who did help in these dreadful times. No one was prepared and I seen first hand how much help was here. But really this could have happened anywhere. In a weeks time there was help everywhere but for some it was too late but for most just to see someonecared was all we needed.

Who knows why people put down New Orleans? What some of these people failed to realize that yes, we were warned about Katrina but the truth is a lot of us didn't have a way out. We had nowhere to go. Here a message to all; before you judge a person, learn to walk in their shoes. I cannot wait to come home again. I'm tired of Houston. Hell, by this time, Houston is sick of New Orleanians. LOL

We all gave to Katrina victims . You can only help people so much . This was a tragedy , yes; but for crying out loud it wasn't done deliberately . Weather happens . Mix in the drive -by media ; muggers;burglars;rapists and what have you ; And by the way-people were warned to get out ! If there is any blame it belongs in New Orleans . Why didn't your elected officials in New Orleans ( who know first hand what the needs are ) get their selves in gear ? Stories can be embellished or fabricated -but we saw with our own eyes , those who took a bad situation and made it worse . Yes, there was heartbreak ; yes , there was chaos ; but you learn to improve on what does not work and you make the best of it where you can . If Florida can do it so can New Orleans .

200k per victim and what results do you see? Compare the results to victims in other states or from other disasters like Andrew. All the help in the world is wasted when the victims don't get off their butts and do for themselves. Good leadership is imperative and neither mayor Negin nor the state governor did any good. Both made the problem many times worse than it should have been. The press magnified the problems with false stories like the water toxicity, rapes and such. And Negin is still at it. Making a swipe at the NYC twin toweres and whining about having his chocolate city back. What a racist pig. He was re-elected tho so he represents the people and so I do put down the people while recognizing that not all deserve it.

Some you feel sorry for but at the same time there are some I don't ..

Others say about people not doing for themselves... hell that could be said for anywheres in America at times... espcially a town that's 2/3s black and at least 1/3 were in federal housing

They glare over the fact that shooters were out there trying to take rescue people out... That during the storm, they couldn't evacuate but shure had ways of stealing TVs during the storm...

Also you wasn't here when FEMA started being stupid (throwing ice on the ground cause they needed the trucks but didn't tell why)

The biggest problem is people though this was a wind storm and never expected the MRGO and Lake Ponchitrain to flood the city because of faulty sheet piling

and before you come at me for what I say... I was here for Katrina..where were you?

The hurricanes have started to come again and I was seeing a report on CNN that the protection walls rebuild again will not withstand the furor of the storm if it strikes again in New Orleans

It is not economically practical to try to restore residential New Orleans, and about half of the former residents realize that and have left forever. The others want America to keep on bailing them out. This includes Mayor Ray Nagin, who just wants to keep his job, no matter how many lies he has to tell.
