Most likely, it is a result of being a Microsoft product running on a Microsoft operating system. If this is the case, you might be better off uninstalling Word (or Office), and reinstalling it AFTER backing up your files. This way, you are starting on a clean slate. Unless you want to go all the way and reformat your hard disk and reinstall everything. Doesn't get much better than that.

Check your system for viruses. I remember a while ago there was a virus spread around that was initiated by opening Notepad. This might be something like that.

What Version are you using, and on what OS????? Word does require some memory to run, how much memory do you have?
