The very first day you just need your binder or notebook, however you plan on taking you notes and pencil or pen, whatever you plan to write your notes with. Buy your textbook(s) ahead of time and bring that with you. The first day is mostly an introduction and you will find out what you will be required to do and what the schedule will be like and start taking notes. You will know after that first day what supplies you are going to need. I hope the class works out for you.

All you're going to need is pen and paper. You'll spend most of your first day going over the syllabus for the semester. You might want to consider bringing a course guide in case you change your mind about the classes you've registered for.

until you have been to several "first days", a good idea is to drop by the professor's office and pick up a copy of the course outline or syllabus. This document usually states rather explicitly what the professor excpects you to bring, what books he requires, and how he expects his class to comport itself.
Unlike high school, you should expect a full class period of lecture and discussion over a reading assignment that you should have already read by day 1.

Just the basics: Notebook, pens / pencils, and a decent attention span. Your teacher will probably fill you in on any other essentials you'll need for the future.
