I'm not sure if this is the one you are looking for, but as I read your question, a game called "Kingdom of Loathing" comes to mind. It's a pretty random game and has tons of stick figure sort of things. In fact, your charater is a stick figure. I know you have "jobs" sort of and I think one might even be a ninja.
I used to play it, but stopped because I couldn't play it long before I had to stop. I hope this helps. If is indeed Kingdom of Loathing, you may find it at kingdomofloathing.com
