Probably to avoid the pain of rejection/ dissappointment.
It works like a domino effect in that they (the judgmental) pass judgment before it befalls them to avoid hurt.
Think of it more like a defense mechanism; everybody has one be it humor/ sarcasm/ brood, etc.
It's an alternate way of coping, I guess.

I think it's probably the other way around. People judge because they have a tendency to think they are 'better' than those they judge. As Christians, we are to only judge sin, not the sinner. We're taught NOT to judge others, because we have too much in ourselves that needs judgment. The Scripture says that "our righteousness is as filthy rags".
Matthew 7:1-5
1 DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.
2 For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.
3 Why do you stare from without at the very small particle that is in your brother's eye but do not become aware of and consider the beam of timber that is in your own eye?
4 Or how can you say to your brother, Let me get the tiny particle out of your eye, when there is the beam of timber in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first get the beam of timber out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the tiny particle out of your brother's eye.

Are you saying those that pass judgement, are often lacking in the same qualities.
Maybe what the person is lacking or complaining about is what they hate about themselves, therefore are quick to point it out in others.
God Bless, Ido

Because it is the way of the world. I mean they way people think. The World. It is what God was talking about. Repentance means to change ones mind back to a sane path.
God said, Judge not the person but rather the act or the sin. Get that person to change their mind and return to his ways. His ways are life and the world’s ways are death. I like life. So I go his ways. Not perfectly but as best I can. For his son took all that upon him at his death and then arose from the dead to become as his father is. God!
(Act 3:19) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
(Mat 13:49) So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
(Mat 25:34) Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
(Luk 20:35) But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
(Rom 11:15) For if the casting away of them [be] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?
(Jam 1:27) Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.
(Rev 3:10) Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
(Rev 17:8) The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
(Rev 13:8) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
If the world wins you and you love it then God cannot love you.
(Luk 18:17) Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God, as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
( Jam 4:4) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
I do not think I want to Be God's enemy.
God is the only True Judge.
Satan went against him and he sis not win.
(Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
(Luk 6:37) Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Its God's way.

If you listen to the people that judge you will find that they are usually finding faults in people that they have themselves. Like if you are always crabby you will notice that others are crabby. We complain about the flaws of other people that we hate most about our selves. For instance I am going to judge you as being smart, cute and sophisticated.

You know its like first grade. Ill call you a name you call me one, I call you a meaner one.. and so on. These people believe that the judgements against them could be true, so they fight back by blaming someone else, or trying to shine the light on a differnt victim, so that he himself shall be spared.

It's like the unwritten adage: "Do unto others BEFORE they do unto you! They might be so used to being judged that they judge others before others can judge them.
