I am so wanting to get a better job. And it is hard to keep this desire a secret. Am I doing the right thing by keeping it a secret?

There is an old saying: "I can keep a secret just fine...its everyone I tell that blabs".

Keep that in mind. Tell one person at work, and you should assume that everyone will know, including your boss.

Depending on the circumstances, that could get you fired on the spot, or it could get you an offer of a raise (doubtful). In any case, you will be out of control of the situation.

And never, ever, ever assume that a new job is a sure thing until you have a formal offer in hand.

Yes, keep it a secret.

You have nothing to gain by telling others. In fact, if your boss finds out you are looking for another job, they could make your life difficult. And if some people in your office find out you are looking, your boss will hear about it, believe me, the office grapevine is very efficient at spreading the information.

Yes you should. Think of how much better it will be to tell them that you have gotten a new job than to tell them you are just looking.

It depends. If your current company wants to keep you badly enough, they might give you a pay rise. however, they might also kick you off early if they feel the opposite.
