They do not seem to be that common in the Midatlantic States, from what I can tell. Are there States out west where they are more common? To what types of areas are they attracted--soil, topography etc. There is not much information on the gopher through conventional search. Thanks.

I see we are getting off to a good start with the nitwit club. Is the "ground" a State? Must be that 51st one that I didn't hear about yet.

Since our nickname is the gopher state, I'm guessing we must be up near the top. Minnesota

I believe it to be MINNESOTA. I remember reading somewhere it is called the gopher state.

And, I am certain it is true because due to the overcrowding in MINNESOTA I get a bunch of them here in WI. At least two or three a week.
If you don't chase them varmints off they will be 10 - 15 in no time. Every once in awhile i'll be mowing the lawn and the tire will drop into a hole I didn't expect because IT WASN'T THERE TWO DAYS AGO! The jolt almost knocks me off the seat and sends bolts of electricity through my arthritic knee.
Dad burned rodents. If they would just make a neat little hole I could roll over I might ignore them, but no they have to widen the opening so they can dive into the hole at about 30 miles per hour while outrunning the neighbors cats that come over here for a little entertainment.

One guy suggested I take some garden snakes home and they will eat the gophers. HAH, the first snake went down the hole, and about two minutes later the gophers tossed out the hide. They done skinned him and ate him I think! The second snake looked in the hole and took off for the woods, the third snake refused to leave the security of the cage. Wrapped itself around the little post inside and would not come out. Them's mean rodents.
I fed them rat poison, the next day they were even bigger and were waiting for me to bring more. NO WAY JOSE!

Don't know what it's gonna take! maybe that old buddy of mine in the national guard can smuggle out some RPG's????

I think theeir in the garden in my backyard. The dammned things are eating everything in sight. No matter what kind of poison I use they always come back. I live in San Diego California and we have them pretty bad out here.
