You can actually visit the local Police Department. It will take some time, but the Detective Division can hear your fears, and do some checking.

Fear is a reaction that is natural, and assists you in self-preservation. The police can help you with this problem. Total honesty is necessary.

I am very sorry for your situation and that you are afraid of this person. You can go to your local police and tell them that you are afraid of this person and should anything happen to me I want to give you his/her name, address and telephone #, along with any other info, that you may have about this person.

If no crime has been committed the police have no authority to do anything at all. The law is the law, you have to get hurt or killed before they can do anything.

Getting a restraining order does not sound possible, because no crime has been committed. Just because you are afraid of this person that is not legal grounds for a restraining order. Plus even if you were harmed and obtained a restraining order for the person to stay x amount of distance from you and never call you this is only paper and you still can be harmed. The police are not able to watch over you 24 hours per day.

As for web detectives they are a rip off. They will only provide you with information on how to pull up information that is available under the freedom of information act. You have to do all the research yourself in the court systems computers yourself.

I don't reside in the United States. I can tell you that in most states if not all states and officer does not have the authority to run a criminal background check on you unless he has you pulled over and has probable cause. Running you for know reason at all can cost him or her their job. Ofcourse if you are caught in the performance of a crime ofcourse they can run a check for outstanding warrants and what ever else that may show up on their computer.

If you think a web detective can gain access to "NCIC", you are kidding yourself.

Why don't you just get this person out of your life. Purchase a small tape recorder and have it turned on when you tell this person to get out of your life forever. An if they make threats to harm you, they will be on tape. May not be legal, but it is a good way to get the police involved.

Sorry I don't know of any free sites that will give you access to the "National Crime Bank".

You actually only need their DOB, NAME AND SOCIAL SECURITY #.

Good Luck!!

You could do a query on google or yahoo for your local sherriff's website and look at the links there, or you could go to your local sherriff's office and request a criminal background on this person. Make sure you are getting the NCIC not just your local city or county police check cause that is what they usually do. If this person has lived anywhere else, they could have a record there and the NCIC would show that. You could also do a query for your local county court website, clerk of courts, civil cases (CC) would show criminal activity, dometic relations (DR) would show divorce, children, and most importantly it would show domestic violence (DV). Hope any of this helps. You can write me if you have any more questions.

Criminal Histories are priviledged information. You can go to your local police department and get a criminal history report if you know the person's name, date of birth, address, and social security number. Otherwise, there is no way to get it. Sorry!

Forget that. if you are afraid of them, why bother with a criminal history. Your gut tells you this person is not good to be near, then listen to it. Especially if you're a female because not much matches a woman's intuition.
