No competition mostly everyone say it's Final Fantasy 7, it's so good they made Dirge of Cerebus from it, A MOVIE from the FF7, and they are re-making the game for the Ps3. Final Fantasy 7 was so good that the Sephiroth (the main villian/final boss) is featured in many other games and is considered the best game villian ever.
Why is it so good if it's a PSX game?
The graphics is outdated of course but it has the best gameplay.
Ever Final Fantasy game the system changes where you will be newbie even if you beat the other game. Final Fantasy 7 had this materia system where you can combine magic, it was really cool. The gameplay is the best one by far and the characters are great, Cloud Strife.
It's the best Final Fantasy game hands down.

Are you serious? Everybody knows that FF VII is the best. What other FF games have spin-offs and movies and other crap about them? People wouldn't put so much time into stuff like Advent Children, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus if everybody hated it.

I also liked X the best, I liked the story line better.

no one read the question, did they? it said what was the BEST game, not the most OVER-RATED games.
while six was good, none of the FFs have come close to being as good as four
