AHHH!! I was just watching my betta fish swim around when I noticed that under his gills there is a big bump!! Is it just that i am overfeeding him and he is obese?? And i also noticed that his colour is dulling. His whole head is a yellowish maybe dirty yellow colour. I don't know if he is sick! And what can I do?

I am changing his water every 5 days. I just did today, when I noticed his belly. I'm really worried cuz I've had him for only 3 weeks!

Sometimes bettas (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) have blockages in their digestive tract. Don't feed him for a few days and it should clear up. They will eat as much as they can. It is not good for them to stuff themselves.

Some bettas are normally a little large in that area. If he doesn't show any change in a couple days, do 2 or 3 50% water changes in his tank every other day for the next 6 days.

You ARE doing regular partial water changes already, aren't you?

don't worry you should try feeding him less and if that doesn't work go to the place where you bought him and ask if that is normal.

Don't flush fish if it's still alive, just plain cruel. Cold water and poop......unless it's septic, no water and poop.............
