i changed my name under my profile, but when ppl receive mail from me it says from my old last name. how can i get it to send under my new name. I keep updating my account, but this doesn't change it when i send mail for some reason.

Hey, you sure you didn't change it under the options menu too? Because you can change your name in the account, but the display name is different. I put my full name under the account, but I set it so the emails say my initials. If you still need help, ill loo kthrough my yahoo account and write down where the menus are, but they're there.
edit, heres how:
options>mail (on side bar)> general preferences
change the "from name".

At the top right of your mail page click Options, click Mail Options, another page will open up, under Name and Email, you can customize how your name appears on messages you send by changing the From Name: field. Reply To: specifies the return address for messages that you send. Be sure to go to the bottom of the page and click Save. You will need to reload Yahoo! Mail (sign out and sign back in) for your settings to take effect.

In the Yahoo Mail web interface, click on [Options] in the upper right corner, and the click on [General Preferences]. Your Yahoo profile is different from your Yahoo e-mail address.

It depends on the profession I have. If I did keep my last name, I'd have my kids go by my husband's name because I already have hyphenated last names. Imagine having 3 last names! That would be quite a mouthful.

One way you can do that (as long as the new ID u want isnt taken) by clicking my account and edit profile. U can have 6 or 7 different ID's on same log in.

Log into your mail. On the upper right, select "Options" then "General Preferences" and change your name for outgoing mail there. Hope this helps.

The name that comes up is the name saved on the recipients account not the senders.

What you do is update your profile by editing it. Go to where it says my yahoo and edit your profile.

Do you have it in your signature?
It may be that they need to change it themselves in their contacts.
