I mean people have pet cows, chickens, birds etc and we eat them. Would it be legal to eat my own horse, or cat, or dog? I think it would be ok if you actually ate it. I have eaten horse and I like it, but haven't tried dog or cat yet.

I am reading your responses with great interest. I especially like the suggestion to travel to satisfy my tastes. But the dog is right outside and not 10,000 miles away in Bankot

Actually I really don't think there is a law prohibiting people from
eating their pets, however it is frowned upon in society(with of
course eating a pet chicken or cow is an exception).

For the USA that type of treatment is illegal. Pigs are to be slaughtered after being rendered unconscious by use of an electric shocker behind the ears that immediately knocks them out. They should feel no pain. Let me guess, the video you saw was from PETA, an organization that preaches anti-abuse yet puts down thousands of pets each year and are basically eco terrorists. Often pigs are kept in close quarters, there is a reason for it and I don't remember exactly why but they are social animals who stay close together, so keeping them together is not cruel and any hog farm I've been to they are perfectly happy. As for the cutting of tails, that is actually a safety precaution. Pigs are omnivores, meaning they will eat meat as well as plant material. Pigs will actually eat each other's tails which can lead to nasty infections. Many swine facilities will cut tails just after birth, to prevent this from happening. One last thing, pigs squeal. They will squeal as a defense mechanism, even if they aren't in pain. I've picked up a piglet before and it started screaming, and all I was doing was holding it. They hope to scare whatever it is away from them. Another time I was helping to load pigs into a trailer and one didn't want to go in. The owner when to grab the pig to kind of manhandle it towards the trailer and it started squealing the moment it was touched. Pigs will squeal and it means nothing most of the time.

I myself have never eaten meat, that was the way l was raised, and have chosen as an adult to continue not to eat meat.I don't have a problem with people eating meat as l cook meat for my husband and children, although l will only cook free range meat,as they are treated better while alive and aren't feed a load of chemicals. What l am trying to say is l myself don't care what meat you eat as long as the animal was respected and treated well and is able to live a somewhat freely without chemicals.

depends how you kill them.. and probably where you live.. I am sure some areas have strange laws

you can kill your own animal for your own use as long as you kill it humanely and dont feed it to other people (laws about that for sure, especially concerns with cross over diseases like MAd COW - or problems from pets who were vaccinated or whatever- and that shouldnt enter the food chain)

I have sheep.. but I have to admit I couldnt kill and eat one of my own critters.. I have shot gophers.. but I couldnt eat them either.. I know its wrong becuase whats the difference to eat an animal I bought in the store.. and yet.. it is different

i don't eat meat, and i don't think its a problem that most do. people all over the world eat dog and horse. maybe you could go try it there. b/c here those animals are regarded as only pets. not food. stick to cow here in the u.s.and travel the world to satisfy your curiosity? ! how bout that?.

I can kind of understand eating cows or chickens or pigs, but cats and dogs! that is WAY over the limit. You buy them as PETS, NOT as food. They are suposed to be your friend, not dinner.

And I am not being a hipocrate or whatever, im a vegitarian.

So HA!

DONT EAT YOUR PETS. CATS AND DOGS ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD.

That's an interesting question that challenges us to define the difference between a pet and livestock. I think as a general rule, you shouldn't eat animals that have lived under the same roof as you because they are like family.

chicken cows pigs and birds what ever type you are preferring to they are usually breed to be butchered but as to eating a horse dog or cat i think that is very unethical and to be frank sick. horses and dogs and cats are pets not breed to be butchered

Only if there not cute. Their rules not mine. Who would complain if you ate a pet tarantula or made a belt of your snake. I personally wouldn't eat a cat or dog though.
