Some of us might feel pressured or overwhelmed with things that we know have to be done but are sometimes not wanting to do it. For me, my parents come in my room literally beating an ACT book over my head, then I have to worry if i'm even going to make it to college because of that goddamn test and I have just school, In general, to deal with. I don't know if my parents are trying to scare me into thinking that I have so many things to do or what, but it can become hectic sometimes. I don't know what to do, I try and go to the library to get most of my studies done, but even they have their own agendas to tend to. Give me your imput on this topic and tell me times when you feel you were really overwhelmed.

First off....it's normal, ok? It is a normal, sane reaction to be stressed out and to feel overwhelmed over something *big* like an SAT or ACT test....anyone who tells you different either did poorly on the test or is trying to sell you something. This is a big deal because *colleges* make it so, and because our economy puts a *huge* premium on getting the education (just pay no attention to that Reality TV hogwash, ok?). People aren't even getting hired at *MickeyD's* with just a High School Diploma.

So yeah, you have every right to be concerned. But. It is just a test, and if the stress literally makes you sick, you know you can contact your school counselor and any others you need to and *get it postponed*, right? Nobody is asking you to take the test when you are on the verge of *flipping out* and going psycho on someone....

So yeah, take care of yourself, since you will be the one taking the test. Tell your teachers and counselor at school you are feeling the stress and worried about it screwing you up. Ask them what they can do to help you get in a better, calmer frame of mind for the thing...

Second....if you are still stressed out and feeling overwhelmed *after* taking the test, you might want to see a doctor for this. Really, there is nothing wrong with, and nothing to be ashamed of, in admitting that you might need to see a doctor for anxiety problems. I have personally struggled with multiple mood disorders for 15 plus years just as an adult, and really, half the battle is overcoming your own prejudice *against yourself* and being willing to cut yourself some slack here.

And I am saying this as someone who has been through so much raw crap in life that I feel *overwhelmed* practically every other day of the week. Nearly half the time it feels like life is out to *crush me*. And while some of that *is* an objective assessment of the situation, some of it *is* my mood being screwed up from being under too much pressure, for too long, and/or for the wrong reasons.

So yeah, if you get help from your teachers and counselor at school, get the test done already, and *still* have that "overwhelmed" feeling....ask your folks if you can see a doctor. Really. There is nothing to be ashamed of....nothing wrong with admitting that the pressure is getting to you and that it isn't *healthy* for you.

And the sooner you start getting this taken care of, the smaller a problem it will end up being. Trust me, I know this the hard way: You *can* push yourself past this sort of thing on your own, but it will come back and bite you *hard*, you end up wrecking your health long term, and it isn't worth it, especially not at your young age.

Hope you do well on the ACT, but I'm not trying to pressure you. Your health comes first. It's better to get a good night's sleep and stay sane and have an *okay* test score than to not sleep, freak out and lose it the next day after driving yourself to get the *perfect* score, you know?

Today is my son's Bday and he is alone in Maryland eating bad eggs for dinner on his bday, studying for two tests tomorrow after having taken two today at his Dental school, and he said to me,it is his doings(don't know about those eggs),but he worked to get where he is,BY HIS SELF..parents can only do so much.Goodness,I didn't even know where my parents were when I took my SAT's and you really should be thankful they give a darn about you .Maybe if I had someone "caring' bout me I would not be working at such a level beneath my capabilities today.I think you are just stressed, but I also know there are more days to come like this, and you will regret all you have just felt, though it is real to you today.Open it up,dig in and do the best you can..your parents approach must not be ideal, but we parents have been on that road and know a push once in a while can't hurt..not at all..

I get that way at work sometimes. I work for a japaneses co. and I am in an administrative position, but my back ground is art. I am learning as I go. At the same time, I am trying to decipher Japanese. And worry about OSHA codes, machinery breaking and human resource responsibilities. It is overhelming more often then not. To calm down, I take little breaks through out the day. i walk downstairs, I look online, take deep breaths. While you are studying for this test, don't let it get to you. Don't be afraid to walk awayfrom it for a while. When it is over you will feel incredible. Good luck to you.

Take a deep breath. There are many days that I feel totally overwhelmed, different reasons than you but the feeling sucks. Us parents often forget how much you guys have going on at the same time and only think it sounds easier than our lives, selfish that we are. So, one step at a time, baby step if you have to. Don't get so stressed that you spin your wheels. I do that a lot too. One step, breath, one step, breath......
When you are calm, try and have a talk with the parent that you can talk to the easiest. Don't attack them, but just let them know that you are feeling the pressure and you need their support, not their pushing. I say one parent at a time and hopefully that one will talk to the other. Seems more casual and not so confrontational. Take care and just remember, this too shall pass.

the tenth grade...the most hectic year for me...(im starting 12th this year) i had so much bullcrap to do...we had these things we had to do called a portfolio...one for english and another for history....for english we had to write more that 100 papers and journal entries and for history current events and any other projects she added to it...(it was a year long project but it was murder) i actually got it done like two months early while everyone in both classes were doing it in the last days of school...in fact i helped lots of them do some of their entries b/c i was so bored w/ nothing to do...lol...but b4 that i was exahusted doing my work...it was a lot but it showed me responsibility...
all i did was do an entry per week...sometimes id get two weeks in advance...basically dont procrastinate, do what ur told when ur told to do it...it was overwhelming, even my mom thought so...u kind of got me worried b/c i havent studied for the SAT or ACT and i see lots of ppl getting the books...i havnt studied...i just plan on taking the test...(and i want to be a doctor) i hope i do well...but this isnt about me...lol...now that the new school year has begun, dont let things pile up...get them done right when they are assigned...it seems like a lot, nobody said it wouldnt be, but in the end...its worth it...its less stressful...and u get to relax all u want knowing u dont have anything to do...

Every day is like that for me! I have learned to do what I can, not worry about the rest, and separate work from home life. If you can do this, things will be just fine. Realize you are only human, and if you give it your all, then you know in your own mind that what you did do was a great feat!

Seriously, take a day of personal reflection. Just like one Saturday, take a walk or something, clear your mind and start the next week fresh and clean. I think we're the same age cause we have the same problems. Personally, it helps me to sleep whenever I feel overwhelmed, just for an hour or two.

yessir, i used to wait tables and learned alot in my 10 years experience. do one thing at a time and if you have to much to do, ask for help. learn to say say no to any thing new to do until you are caught up w/ what you already have to do.center yourself and focus on what you are working for. i am now a college student and working full-tme; ilearned last semester that full time school is too much for me(i have 2 kids)as i failed a simple gym class because i couldn't make the 90 visits that semester. God only gives you what you are capable of handling......as far as literally beating you over the head? f*ck that, get their punk *sses arrested for battery- you don't deserve that!

well, first off, i wish you luck now, whatever you're busy doing. haha. hope it gets better.

actually, one of those times is NOW for me. i only have 1 and a half weeks until school, and (i know, procrastination), i still have to read and take notes on a chapter for AP US History (already finished 3...yuk!), write an AP US essay, write two english essays, and write commentary on one of our assigned summer readings.

on top of that, i am really pressed for a job. as in, my parents are sick of giving me money. i'm sick of being broke. i'm 16 and really should have a job anyhow, but no one will hire me.

so that's my life at the moment. a little too busy, a little too stressed, but i'm sure we BOTH will get through. hang in there, and best of luck!!! =)
