When I was pregnant the last time I was 5' and weighed 218. My doctor did not put me on any type of diet other than to say that I should just eat healthy (which is what I was told when I was pregnant and not overweight). The doctor said that I should not go on any sort of diet to lose weight while pregnant. I ended up having morning sickness almost the whole time and gaining only 5 lbs. overall...

I was overweight (5'5-200lb) and my doctor said I should gain about 20 lbs. Just eat healthy and eat until you are satisfied physically, not emotionally. Remember that you're baby is being nourished by what you eat, so try to eat healthy! They will weigh you every time for a check up and let you know if they think it is too much. You shouldn't have a lot of weight gain in the first trimester. Most of the weight will come at the 3rd trimester. Just remember also, that your baby will get what it just what it needs to thrive and leave you the rest, so if you overeat, that's just that much you will have to lose after your baby is born.
Congratulations! I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

He wont want you to lose any weight while being pregnant. He will want you to follow a strict diet that consist of NOT eating a lot of carbs while your pregnant. Since your already over weight there is a high risk of you developing gestational diabetes. You have to be very careful.
He will only want you to gain 30-40 pounds during your pregnancy.
I got gestational diabetes with my first child and had to give myself 4 insulin shots a day. I ended up gaining close to 90 pounds because of the diabetes. I was induced 3 weeks early and my son weighed 8 pounds 6oz. He would have been close to 10 pounds if I would have gone to term with him.
Really try to watch what you eat. It is hard losing the baby weight after wards.
Good luck.

If already at least 20 pounds overweight it is recommended to not gain more than 20 pounds. 3-5 pounds is normal for being 12 weeks along. You do run a higher risk of becoming diabetic during pregnancy if you gain too much weight. You may want to have your doctor test you early, because blood sugars that are not under good control can cause major problems during pregnancy. The best thing to do is to cut out junk food...no chips, ice cream, McDonald's, etc.

Well he can't "restrict" it, he can only make suggestions,a s to what would be healthier for you and your baby! I would use this time to get serious about it for both of your sake!
