I think its a great name. You should check out www.kabalarians.com
Its a fun site where you can get an analysis of how the name may affect your child's personality, and also look up names from all over the world, their origin, their meaning, etc. Here is the analysis of the name Avery, for a girl:
Although the name Avery creates the urge to be reliable and responsible, it can cause a materialistic approach that frustrates higher humanitarian qualities.
This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the reproductive system, worry, and mental tension.
Your name of Avery gives you a strong sense of responsibility in business and material affairs, and the practicality and determination to make a success of anything you undertake.
You are self-sufficient and capable, and have an interest in positions of leadership and responsibility.
You are competent in directing the efforts of others, as you have good business judgment and the natural understanding of people.
Very likely you have assumed much responsibility early in life and are often required to make major decisions.
I usually dont believe in stuff like this, its more just for fun. But my name analysis is freakily accurate, as well as all my friends names. Just have fun, and forget what people say. Some thought Brooklyn was a stupid name for our daughter, now we always get compliments on it and it really suits her.

I do think this name sounds more like a boys name. But it is very cute. Maybe if you try different names similar to Avery that could be used for a girl.

Avery is a girl's name. I don't personally know anyone named Avery, but when I first read it, I thought it was a girl's name.

I always figured boy's name, but I'm reading a book with a female main character named Avery, so I guess it can go either way.

I think that Avery has become a unisex name, like Morgan and Adrian (Adrienne). Name her that, if it's what you like, and pretty soon no one will remember that they thought it was a boys name.

I've heard Avery as a boys and girls name. Go for it! Girls can get away with unique, crossgender names.
