I read an article today (8-27-06) in Yahoo! Odd News and it said that a recent study in the US and UK shows that tall people are smarter than short people. Now, I'm not taking any sides here. I'm average height, right in the middle. I mean, in my class at school, I'm the tallest person, or the shortest person. But I know that I am a whole lot smarter than some of the tall people in my class. In fact, the shortest person in my class, is one of the smartest. What do you guys think of all this?

i feel that height has absolutely nothing to do with someone's level of intelligence..and, as far as this study is concerned, it's just a figure in which the population that was studied had more people who are tall and intelligent as compared to intelligent people who are short..that's it..

I've read that study as well and the thing to remember is that it is still a study not a proven fact. What they are referencing to in an off-beat manner is the correlation between height and the affects it has on a person. So far most studies i've read state that increased height usually does increase confidence and success to a degree, stemming from the response that most people have to a person's height. Therefore saying taller people are smart really says that learning is just as unencumbersome as most other activites. Cause let's face it, if your short and you know it people can act differently, but as long as it doesnt phase you it doesn't mean a damn thing.

Don't fully believe or trust studies and statistics from people/books/etc no matter how much credibility they may seem to have. Judge it based on your own personal experience with a clear mind and without any filters to distort your judgement to test what they say versus what acutally happens. Many times studies and statistic are sllightly of mostly detached from true reality.

Clearly a persons intelligence is not determined based on how tall or short you are. If thats true, you might as well believe what people/studies/statistics used to say about black people in the 1900's about being of lesser intelligence. Or some studies in the past that said men are provern to be smarter than women, or some of todays studies that say women are smarter than men.

To put it smply.....Don't believe the hype.

I can't think of any possible reason why there should be a correlation between height and intelligence except that short people are treated like they're younger and may develop a complex to compliment that, which includes not displaying much intelligence. Just a guess.

I think it is just a generalization, really how can you know unless you test ALL the people in the world?? I know I am short and I was usually the one with the highest marks in my classes. I often don't put much faith in statistical studies because they can be so general as to produce the desired results....

obviously it's not valid to say yes or no since everything is relative, However...if you believe in evolution you would probably lean toward yes, because throughout time humans have been growing taller and taller, the average height in say 1700 was much less than it is now, therefore taller people could be considered to be more evolved and therefore probably smarter.

I know a girl who is 4'11'' and her IQ is 270.

Besides, look who we've had in history. People have been signifigantly shorter in the past, and we've had some stellar historical figures.
