I spent 10 years at a samll company. I recently started a postion a few months ago at a very large company in the same industry but yet i took a contract position with this large company so that I could make the jump for my career. Now because with the name of this large company on updated resume that is out there on job message boards from before, I am getting calls out the woodwork frompeople and they are all ofeering me almost 60 -70% more than what I am currently earning now, which my curent salary is not too shabby either. But the $ is so tempting and the chance to maybe relocate with my wife, we have no kids yet. But should I keep and honor my currentl employer's wiggle room contract or if I know I am hitting my stride right now , should I go for it while I am hot right now or should I wait a year to see if I am still hot right now? In my short time at the current employer, they already have said how impressed they were about my performance, should i go for the brass ring now?

It depends on if you can get some quick 'wins' for your current employer and make your mentor look good. If so, you can carefully feel out whether you can retain his/her goodwill, which will allow you to make the leap.

Try to create a milieu where you would be welcomed back with open arms if everything doesn't work out the way you hope it does if and when you try for the next rung on the ladder.

Winning friends and influencing people on your behalf is not a matter of slogging along for a year or more in the same position. It's often a matter of what you accomplish in whatever timeframe you're there, and your style--what commitments you're able to get for your eventual return.

Good luck, whatever you do!

the salary is tempting, there's no doubt about it.. but there's a lot of factors you have to consider, like will you be a happy with that company? will the bosses there will treat you like your current boss treats you? how about the other employees? actually it's not all about money, it's where you'll be happy and most productive that will bring you to the top! and as long as you do right there will be more promotions and honor on the way and great increase too!!=D
