my pc will play .mpg, .mpeg, but not .avi. if i transcode it to mp4 and put it on my psp, it works though.

It sounds like you don't have the correct codecs (COmpressor-DECompressors ... see what I did with the capital letters? It spells CODEC). Type codecs into a search engine such as www.google.com or go directly to www.free-codecs.com where you can download and then install to your hearts content.

As an afterthought, some .avi files that you might download use XViD or DivX codecs.

You need DIVX codecs to play DIVX movies. Free download at www.divx.com. But some movies you download from file sharing sites come with unique codecs that you have to buy from their websites.

VLC is great. The problem you're facing is probably because you need the Dvix package. You can download it for free and it will allow you to play it with whatever player you already have.

I bet your using windows media player.
It won't play a lot of AVIs because microsoft will not support
other companies formats... Simple as that.

go to this site and download the free divx codec install it and than play the files.

if it still doesnt play download vlc media player (FREE) and it will definitely play

try searching google for "complete codecs" its a free download. i think your avi is divx5 or xvid...

Use WINAMP! It'll play them no problem... and it's free to download.

you need codecs to play them - divx, xvid, ac3filter are the ones that i have intsalled for my movies. i also use real player instead of windows media.

try and go to www.computerhelper.homestead.com and ask them. They have a LIVE SUPPORT SITE for computer help or stuff like your probs. Give it a try and their services are free :)
