I do so does Al Gore

My question basically is asking do you think our current system of government debate is good enough. Consider how little debate the war in Iraq got and how Congress just gave the president a blank check to wage war.

Looking at the previous answers I see that many are knee-jerk attacks on the left and right wings, I'd say that it isn't under attack - it's withering away due to apathy.

The two-party system where each party takes the opposite stance of their adversary is farcical.

Voter turn-outs decreasing and wins by tiny margins show just how little folks actually care. Every day folks are dying in the middle east (right or wrong) and the Emmy's get more attention.

Democracy could slip away, but so long as "America's Got Talent" comes back after breaking news, folks will slip back into their Doritos and life will go on as usual.

Yes. Ben Franklin answered a lady who asked what kind of government the important men had just created when he was leaving as the Second Continental Congress broke up, and he said, "a democracy, if you can keep it."

Part of what he meant by that was that adults needed a full liberal education to be informed citizens and keep fighting so that this 'American Experiment' would survive.

I feel that our people are now so fat, dumb and happy that we are willing to tolerate the loss of our democracy in favor of anything that will please authority. But that's not how it works. We should be working on 'keeping it' as ol' Ben said.

Yes it is and has been for quite some time.
The current administration is hell bent on killing our lifestyle and country all the while doing the same to people all over the world.
And just so you know Al Gore is a idiot, but he does have a point here.

I think a democracy will always be under attack. Democracies allow freedom of speech, freedom of expression. People dissatisfiedwith their government, such as the LIberals in my beloved USA, have the right to shoot off their mouths. They seem more intent on attacking their own government, than they are attacking the terrorists. SICK.

We live in a republic !
Is there a federal initiative on the ballot?
Large masses of money make force and movement.
Who pays for elections? Who 's payed back?
You can tell when they lie, their lips move!
Some people think they are not alike.
It's who they work for!
