To just name a couple...
Technical Trend:
World wide web made global competition possible. Customers can now shop around.
RFID tags made real-time tracking of inventory or inventory in transit. Customers will buy from the company who can tell them the status of their shipment, not just with a tracking number, but with the exact location of their product, down to the minute.
Operational trend:
Vertical supply chain management and partnerships allow every link in the chain to have better control while minimizing cost and increasing efficiency.

Yes, I agree that for techy stuff, it has to be the Internet. However, there are also online tools that greatly contribute to customers' loyalty. One is the overall look of your website. Of course, you have to see to it that your web is presentable and offers exactly what you want to convey to your clients. One important thing that contributes loyalty to online clients is your web contents. Good quality content serves as basis for people to see if the company is credible and could be trusted. Of course, "security" matters too. If you are marketing your goods and services online, you have to have a site that is secured and legal.
