It may be the same thing that some computers do when you try and start the computer with a floppy disc in the 3 1/2 floppy drive, except this is with the CD ROM drive, just wait until it gets to at least the password screen and then insert the CD

I agree with I run with scissors. Your computer is trying to boot from the CD. You are able to change this in the system BIOS, but if you're not sure of tinkering, don't change things without someone being there to explain how to you. If you make the wrong adjustments within BIOS you can cause your computer to run slowly (though you can actually increase it's performance if you know what you're doing) or even stop it from booting up at all.
I presently have my computer set to boot up from my hard drive, but when I need to reinstall Windows I set it to boot either from floppy disk or CD-ROM depending on which version of Windows I'm installing.
The chances are that whoever installed Windows onto your computer left it so the computer would boot from the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
It may reassure you to know that you won't do your computer any damage by keeping it as it is, save for loading from a CD or DVD that has a virus program on it.

It's trying to boot from the CD. If you want to stop it doing this, go into the BIOS and let it to boot from the hard drive first instead of the CD drive.

Like the person before me said, it's trying to boot from the CD. You need to go into your computer's BIOS and change the boot order to have the C: selected as the first drive to boot from.

I am pretty sure the problam is you might have your computer booting up on the cd drive, to change this when your computer is starting up press F2 alot and then wait until BIOS comes up when it does go to startup and make sure it is not first or second. Floppy drive should be second.

the problem is that you are forgetting to remove your cd's from the drive before you shut it down..your laptop is set to boot from the cd when switched on...to change this you need to go into the BIOS and change the boot up sequence..but its much easier to just remember to remove the disks before you shut it down

Itf the CD is unbootable, it may take the PC quite a while to decide that it can't boot the CD and finally boot the disk.
You may have to be more patient.

Its normal, your computer does this because its looking in the disc for an operatingg system, finding something foreign it stalls. This is so that if ever yiou computer fails, you can insert an operating system disk and boot up using that and hopefully repair your computer. (same will happen if you try to boot with a floppy in thr drive).

This is completely normal. When a disk is inserted at startup, the computer thinks that you want it to use an operating system on that disk. If you take it out, it'll start normally, and then you can put it back in.
