of course, cut the power off at box to it....if its metal ur trying to get out go buy a magnet screw driver( lowes) if its glass, empty ur ice maker into a bowel, get a small pan lid, put 2 handfuls of ice in the disposal, cover with lid, and turn the disposal on....repeat this 10 or so times.( this is what the people at sears told me to do when it happened to me and it work great) if something other u will need to remove the locking ring and remove the disposal and tur it upside down and shake it out..

Turn the power circuit breaker to it off and then if you look under your sink you can unscrew the bottom of the disposal. There should be the tool you need attached to it if it is new. Just put a bucket under it before you attempt to do this.

DO NOT REACH DOWN THERE. You need to flip the circuit in your house and tape the breaker on off, tape the switch on 'off' as well before you do ANYTHING. Call a professional, or use tongs if you can see th e object. Your hand is irreplacable.

this is easy. firs turn off the breaker then unscrew the drain line. then turn the colar that holds the unit to the sink about 1/4 turn and it will pop off. it is also a good time to replace the black rubber thing.
