If you contact a local Herpetological Society, or a Zoo, or even a reptile collector, explain your problem, they have lots of different snakes they can show to her. My girlfriend had the same problem, then I showed her a baby (6 inches) corn snake and she fell in love with them. You just have to prove to her that snakes wont bite unless provoked.

Find someone that has a small , calm snake as a pet. Let your friend watch the snake in it's cage, so she can see for herself that the snake will go about it's business taking no notice of your friend & certainly not threatening any harm. After a while, the snake's owner could take the snake from it's cage & hold it while your friend watches the snake crawl thru the owners grip. Who knows, your friend might even work up the courage to touch the snake or even hold it themself. Good luck & take it slow. Remember, your friend's fear is VERY real to them , so don't dismiss it as silly or force them to try something they might not be ready for.

Sounds like she has ophidiophobia.
If it really keeps her from a normal life than it is a pathological problem & she needs to consider seeing a doctor or therapist.
An all-consuming fear of anything including snakes should not negatively affect your life... there are treatments available.
For those that suggested snake repellents - they don't really work & don't really address the girls problem anyway - an unrealistic fear of snakes.

just assure her that the snake is more afraid of her than she is of it. In the wild snakes dont want nothing to do with people and will go out of their way to avoid us. If she were to see one to just simply walk away the snake will go the other way.

Sounds like the next guest on the Maury Show. She needs to be exposed to them or see a shrink.

The only way for someone to conquer a phobia is to face it. You can try to coax her into facing it but if she's not willing there isn't really much you can do. She has to want to get over it.
