throw some monkeys in first, monkeys hate water and the resulting monkey panic will draw the attention of the croc's thus giving their human cousin some family support in crossing the crocodile infested river. face it, it's you or them but always give the surviving monkeys a few bananas for the inconvenience.
or just hire a helicopter from the local safari tour guide but don't forget to take a monkey just to test the theory. I could be right.

I cross the bridge just down the river a bit.

The first thing you must do is check for a bridge. If there is not a safe bridge then I would suggest you put on your crocodile skin boots and pants inorder to blend in.

I would throw my wife in the river and while the crocodiles are fighting over who gets her first I would run downstream and cross
