I think we've all had relationships like that at one point or another. In my case, my ex mistreated me and made me feel like he was the best I would ever get. He beat down my self-esteem. I ended up leaving him after being in the relationship for 2.5 years longer than I wanted to be (we were together 5 years total). Yeah, it was hard at first, but then I realized I could rely on myself and I didn't need him to have someone "there". Obviously you know you need to get him out of your life....but take the time to learn who you are. Usually if you're afraid to be alone, what it is you really are afraid of is having the opportunity to be your own person. You don't need someone else's opinions and actions to steer you into the person you are. You have your own thoughts, you have your own great traits, etc....you need time to yourself to figure out who you are. It is very empowering...believe me. Good luck!

Think of it this way -- do you like being treated as a piece of rotten meat -- picked up, looked over (maybe used), and then put on the side for another picking over by a carrion eater?

Put that picture in your head whenever the thoughts of the guy start popping up or whenever he calls -- the roadkill being picked apart by the carrion eater (and your body is the roadkill).

There are a lot of women around that have that same problem. It might suck now, but give it a few years when he is really beating up on you and you still put up with it. It just gets worse. Get out now. He sounds like a piece of crap.
