Yes they can.

The friction of the contact lenses can cause with the cornea (the transparent covering of the eye) can cause an abrasion. If the abrasion gets infected, you can lose the eye!

Do NOT sleep with contact lenses in.

Take care of your eyes.

Some of the contacts cause alot of lack of oxygen to the eye and can cause eye injury without proper use, the newer type contacts have more air flow through them for less risk of complications. Contacts can also help prevent vision from getting worse (excluding diseases) because they hold the shape of the eye better kind of like braces for teeth.

You could get an infection if you don't take proper care of your contact lenses, like not sleeping with them in and making sure they soak in the solution every night. I've worn them for 9 years now and have not had problems.

Using unsterilized cleaner or leaving contacts on your eyes too long can promote bacteria buildup which can promote disease, which leads to complications, which could possibly lead to blindness.

They won't if they're good contact lenses, if you take care of them properly, and if you don't leave them in too long.
