They have managed to give tax breaks to the rich, special breaks for oil companies, drug companies and insurance companies. Budget deficit that wiped out surplus. Tried to pass constitutional amendment on gay marriage have seen corruption all the way to the white house.

Katrina is typical of Bush bashers. Mayor numbnuts negin is a democrat. He pleads for 500 buses while the 500 buses he had sit under water. Guess those were the wrong color. Maybe if he had chocolate buses for his chocolate city. The state governor is a democrat. She couldn't figure out for two days that agreeing to federalize the assistance was required before FEMA could begin to move the supplies that had been prepositioned. She had to get her nap in and figure out how to jockey for political gain regarding Negin. Meanwhile the people sat doing nothing for them selves. (altho that is a more encompassing indictment than I mean it to be)
Compare how the recovery has gone in the other states. Compare how the recovery has gone from other major diasters like Andrew. The failure on Katrina was largely local and largely democrat.
GWB declared the state of emergency 2 days BEFORE the storm hit. First time that was done before the fact.
FEMA prepositioned supplies inland ready for action. No failure there.
The federal screwup was in the credit cards and scrambling to throw more money at it than the other guy. About $200k per victim.
Oh yeah - and Negin turns down an offer from a private company to PAY the city to haul abandoned cars away and instead opts to sign a costly contract. Not sure on the numbers but 35 million out instead of 17 million in for the same results. And the people re-elect the idiot.

Why is it people think every issue happening that is not going well, is because of strictly Republicans? You are buying into the rediculous campaign of the Democrats. Many of these issues first began or worsened years before. Sooner or later something is going to happen. Osama couldve been captured under Bill Clintons time, but he didnt think it was that important. 9/11 was planned during Clintons time. Katrina was bound to happen. New Orleans is below sea level. Way below. And the levees needed repaired for a very long time now. Rise in hatred for America? um that has been rising for many years now and unless we all convert to Islam, its not going to go down. We will always be hated for democracy and just being the United States super power we are. The world is so messed up there will always be evil dictators such as the ones in Iran, Venezuala, and North Korea that will be out to get us. And not to mention all the fcked up muslim extremists. So please, get a clue and come down to earth. And if you think things will get better when or if democrats are in office you are sadly mistaken. They will get worse in the long run. Youll see

The only thing that Republicans have done well, even by their own measures, is provide government welfare and largesse to huge corporations.
From the Medicare drug benefit to the billions spent on the Iraq war to the giveaway tax breaks, credits, and cash gifts to oil companies for not finding alternatives to petroleum, our government, under Republican guidance, has managed to slide down the slippery slope into fascist government/industry collusion.
Next, I expect to see major lobbyists as political campaign managers for the GOP . . .

More idiocy from KFC...kept us safe from any terrorist attacks since 9-11, by the way the incompetent governor of Louisaina and the joke of a mayor in New Orleans are democrates and deserve the bulk of the blame for non reponse to Katrina.

They beat the Democrats. They got their voters out by the busloads, from the church groups and nursing homes. It was stunning to behold the little old ladies getting off the bus, asking "Who do you want me to vote for, son?" while other buses pulled up behind them.

this kind of "us versus them" mentality resolves nothing. it is clear that many of you answering this question are answering soley from your ideological belief system rather than really thinking about it. republicans...democrats...it doesn't matter. they are the same except for polarizing americans into identifying with one party or the other. no one considers themselves to be an american anymore, but rather democrat or republican. democrats mess up just as much as the republicans. you just don't see that b/c it messes up your worldview.

I'd say they've pretty much cornered the market lately on cronyism and corruption. I'm impressed by their efficiency at doing so and avoiding the consequences. :)
