my friend and I were debating and i need to know what is the value for the average person of understanding the scientific method? if anyone knows please let me know so i can straighten this out.........Thanks

I suppose you are asking what use there is for the average person to understand the scientific method. Well, there certainly are benefits if you somewhat know what it's all about; you then would understand the basics of science, and what it really means if there is a scientific theory about something. If everyone knew the basics of "making science" (that would include the scientific method, and understanding of some other concepts like falsifiability and testability), there would be far less heated arguments where, for example, people gracefully mix up religious and scientific issues, treat science as a religion and vice versa. It always makes me sad to see two people arguing only because neither understands what they really are talking about.
