i just decided to buy a new car and so far theres 2 infiniti g35 coupes the dealership is offering me. theres the black g35 with 290HP and it comes with the Auto-Manual transmission that lets you choose wich mode you want to use and the other is just manual. i want a manual transmission that wont change gears unless i want it to period, but i also want the convenience of an automatic. i'd rather not have the automatic if the manual mode is going to shift by itself or if i forget to shift. i was wondering because my sisters BMW 5 AMG does this. i could be doing a burnout and it will shift to second gear by itself wich is very annoying when trying to drift.

Ok, once again, people think they are smart and give the WRONG answer to the question.
The answer is NO! the G35 will not shift untill you tell it to. Even if you hit the redline, it will bounce off the rev limiter all day long till you upshift to the next gear. The G35 is not some Lexus granny car with a dummy mode. The transmission is an automatic with a true manual mode which means - you are in control of the gears. Period.

Here's another cool thing about the G35's auto transmission. Models 2005 and newer have a rev-matching downshift. Like heel and toeing, the when you downshift in manual mode the car will actually blip the throttle to match the engine speed of the lower gear before it puts it into the lower gear. It does this so the speed of the vehicle doesn't change as you downshift.

Yes it will shift for you i believe, when u move the stick to go into the next gear or downshift you are only sugesting to move on to the next gear. The car then determains road speed and rpm and tells the electronic assisted tranny to shift hens the dealy.
Example: your travling 60mph in 4th gear u click twice to down shift into 2nd... the car will go into 3rd where it is a safe rmp range but wont go into 2nd wich would cause an over rev situation. In a manual tranny where it could be done you would cause major dammage to the engine by doing so. Manual trannsmisions and autos have totally different components. and it mercedes amg not bimmer //M!! stop trying to drift

it will auto shift but only if it hits redline. it is built in as a safety feature so u don't over-rev the motor and do damage. as far as drifting one, i would get the manual tranny that way you can double clutch and have a lot more control over your drift. i forget which one has the e-brake by hand, the 350z or the g35, but the other one has a foot e-brake, which sucks for drifting (i know this) get the manual with the handheld e-brake, you will be much happier

Have a 2003.5 G35. If you are in 4th gear, it will not go into 5th. However, if you slow down, the car goes into 3rd, 2nd, and 1st (although the indicator stays on 4th). When go start going again, the car will go up the gears until you hit 4th gear and keep going in 4th until you hit the rev limiter.
