ATA stands for At Attachment

There are 2 type of hard drives: parallel ATA and serial ATA.
Serial ATA is the standard for PCs now.

ATA is a specifications for IDE hard drives. They are named ATA-1, 2, 3.... etc depending on mostly the speed. They are all IDE drives.

It looks like any IDE based hard drives.

Here are a couple I found online:

A SCSI hard drive looks like an ATA hard drive, it just uses different connectors.

ATA uses the IDE cable
SATA uses the SATA cable(red thin one)
