Life Liberty and The pursuit of Happieness is a unique concept in all the world. we are so lucky to have that. Its a giant experiment that people always will shoot at its important because it provides for government by the people not just for the people by some Dictator or ruling class it makes all of our freedoms possible.

I do think it's a good thing, but within reason. Many people teach their kids to be so patriotic that they think their country or it's leaders can do no wrong, and that's bad. On the other hand, many people go so far in the other direction that their kids grow up believing that our country and/or leaders are MOSTLY wrong, that other countries are somehow better, etc. I think we should teach our kids to be patriotic, but also teach them to think for themselves so that they don't just blindly follow their political leaders. I feel very grateful to live in this country, and if I had children I would teach them to be grateful as well and make sure they understood why they should be.

Raise them as normal people, caring for others and giving a helping hand. Not pollute young minds with patriotic stuff or religion. I'd take them to church but not baptise them or make them follow practices. Faith has to be a deliberate choice. I'd show them what it is but the choice is theirs.
The only thing i'd teach is love and ability to share. Explain that damage is miles more easily done than repaired, or often irreperable at all. If they grow reasonable, responsible and broad-minded, they won't smug drugs, spoil little kids or blow up planes. They'll just be PEOPLE.

Love of country and respect for fellow citizens is important, that never includes an elected or corrupt government, like Chavez's or Castros'.
"To worship God and support their country", are always the best values.

I raised my daughter to be a good citizen in her community.
I raised her to help out however she can close to home because usually our government either forgets to do this or they don't care. Her Dad & I have done this ever since she was born so it's a part of who she is now.
Being patriotic is in the eye of the beholder. To me it's like religion....it's personal.

i think its a value that is sadly disappearing. people seem to have no sense of respect for their country anymore which is sad as so many innocent and brave people fought and died for this country during the two world wars. what did they die for? our identity has gone, our cultural values have gone and we live in a democracy dictated by blair and his unliberal labour government that are ruining this country.

It's a good idea and it certainly beats the alternative - teaching children to hate their country. Countries or societies that hate themselves don't tend to last very long.
