I have a shower to go to and I hate to get her all baby clothes, I want to get her something most people wouldn't think of needing or getting, she is a co-worker, so I do not want to spend too much

Discovery toys has a teether called the Gummy yummy- this was both of my children's absolute favorite teether and everyone I know that got one loved it.
If I am going to a baby shower for someone that I don't know very well or is not a close friend I will get a bag of diapers, wrap it with a bow and use the gummy yummy as the centerpiece for the bow. I might include a board book, a lulaby CD, one of those baby bath sets or a gift card so mom can get what she needs

I also like to do this (though it is generally for closer relationships but it is up to you) a Pampers for baby / pampers for mommy gift- the pampers for baby would be a bag of diapers, a board book, a small toy, and a baby bath set and pampers for mommy would be a bag of chocolates, a good book (either a novel she would enjoy or an inspirational book for moms) and bath salts or bubble bath and a candle

The one thing that I had received and still use to this day for my four year old son was a simple laundry basket, the Rubbermaid kind with the wheels on the bottom and the handle that you could pull to the washer with one hand and the baby in the other-- Inside was a few odds and ends and a big bottle of DREFT laundry soap for newborns. What a kool idea--- I didn't have to worry about separating OUR clothes (my husbands clothes could get pretty grimey) from the babies clothes and all the unpleasant odors stayed in one basket. I never would have thought about that I needed to wash my babies clothes separately for awhile,, when I was pregnant (first time mom) until the day arrived and then bingo I was already prepared. Hope this helps you out something different and not to pricey.

I had a baby 8 weeks ago and some of the gifts that my husband and I really appreciated were the things no one wanted to get. For instance the bottles, nail clippers, diapers, wet wipes and things like that. EVERYONE seemed to get us clothes and we had no idea if we were having a boy or girl. Needless to say, we ended up with a lot of yellow and green!

One of the neatest showers was when they put on the invitations to bring a bag of diapers or wet wipes to be entered into a drawing for a prize. We have made it through 8 weeks w/out having to buy a single diaper or wet wipe. Just bought the first diapers today! The wet wipes will last us another six months or longer!

My niece is having her baby shower next month. I have an order coming in from Jellybeans. They have the cutest stuff. I am getting her a baby journal so that she can keep a diary for the first year, a keepsake box (for things like baby teeth, lock of hair, and hospital bracelet) and a Christmas ornament. You could pick just one of those for around $10-20. I know there is a coupon for free shipping if you order $50 until September 5th. There is also a coupon to get $5 off of a $20 purchase.

There is an adorable journal called Cheeky Cowgirl that I love but she's having a boy. I'm tempted to order it just for myself and use it as my personal journal. :) If you're going to spend around $20, I'd definitely get the keepsake box. That is something that you rarely see, but it gets a lot of oooohs and aaaahs.

A little wooden footstool. Was a gift I could use during the end of my pregnancy, while I had a infant to rock and, and I am still using it under my computer desk 6 years later. Now I always give one as a gift cause is the perfect price $25.00 and something that lasts that will be used every day. Target has them- made by Medela. It is a great gift for both bottle feeding and nursing moms.

If she is formula feeding or pumping bottles, a bottle warmer was my most cherished gift initially! I was a single mommy at the time(but even if I wasn't you still have your hands full with a newborn!) So in the morning or when my daughter was napping, I could pre-mix enough formula for the next 12 or 24 hours and put it in bottles and store it in the fridge! Then when she got hungry all I had to do was put a little water in the warmer, push a button, go pick my daughter up, and then the bottle would be warm! made things a lot easier for me!!! And safer than using a microwave if you are seriously sleep deprived!

What would really be good is to get older kid clothes, like 6 or 9 month. Everyone always goes crazy with newborn clothes that you have a ton of newborn clothes but when your baby gets bigger you don't have anything.

Another good thing is the Diaper Genie. That was a good gift that I got too.

When I go to showers, I like to give the basics... Lubriderm skin lotion (recommended for infants), infant Tylenol, diapers, wipes, little Handy Sacks (they are Hefty sacks that you can find in the checkout lanes... they come 10 in a pack, and can go in the diaper bag for when the baby has a dirty diaper when they're out), Baby Orajel, Baby Orajel tooth and gum cleanser, disposable changing pads, Johnson and Johnson Head to Toe Baby Wash. These are all things the mom will use on her baby. You wouldn't have to get all these things, but these are the things that the baby will not outgrow, and the mom will definitely use.

A friend of mine gave me a small, toddler size, wicker laundry basket filled with things that you use daily or frequently. It sure helped me save trips to the store, especially on the days that I was really sleep deprived!

She put some Newborn size diapers in the basket (which I used just for my daughters clothes), wipes, diaper rash cream, a nail clippers, comb and brush set, lotion, shampoo, baby bath, disposable washcloths (these are great...less laundry!), a bottle of Dreft, a teething ring (this can start as early as 3 months of age!), a pair of newborn bunny slippers, some socks, and lap pads. Lap pads are wonderful, especially if you have a leaky diaper! Good Luck!

well bibs are a waste of time and money
buy her size 1 and 2 diapers every one else will get her newborns and the baby will only be in them for a about 2 weeks!
also i found onesies a must! or buy her a pretty dress (or a sexy nighty) to wear after the babys born (no body ever thinks of the mom at baby showers) also a house coat would have been nice to get at my shower too. (hospital gowns are drafty!)
