When I had a blood test done, I had a value of systolic of 145, but the value of diastolic was optimal. What should I do to lower the systolic value? is it really risky to stay high as this even though the disastolic is normal?

I am 23 years old. I weigh 190 pounds. I took the test in the gym, there is an automated machine, which is supposed to be very accurate, there. Just let you know that some of my friends took the test and the results were normal, I took the test several times and the results were approximately the same.

How old are you, what are your baseline vitals? What is your health history and are you on any meds. that may be affecting your b/p? What do you weigh? What's your family history?

Exercise and a healthy diet are excellent ways to lower your blood pressure, but you should always check with a doctor before beginning and exercise regime.

I bet if you waited about five minutes, the systolic would come down also. The systolic goes up with exercise and nervousness. Were you in the doctor's office when you had your BP taken? There is a thing called White Coat Syndrome. People with normal blood pressures have them go thru the roof in the doctor's office. I am just saying that may be the case. Be sure to have a recheck soon.

Were you at the doctor's office having a blood test or a blood pressure test? Sometimes that causes BP to go up. If you are over weight - lose weight & exercise. You should have your pressure re-taken 2 to 3 X a day for a week & see if it really is that high. ( You can get a good home machine at the drugstore) Lower your salt intake, too.

120-130 is optimal, so you are NOT very high. Best thing to do is cut out as much salt in your diet as possible. That should help a lot.
