I have a gay guy friend friend. Everyone accepts that he is gay. He doesn't hit on guys and i think that helps. He's the Drum Major for our High School Band and I think that helps him out a lot. Band is a BIG deal here so he's just cool because of that. Everyone forgets to notice that he doesn't like girls. I have two other guy friends. They are homophobic. They're not mean to gays, but they definately dont' "approve" my hanging out with gay people, guys or girls. Whatever, I'll do what I want. I'm a Senior this year and I'd have to say that Gays aren't picked on, they aren't celebrated..If anything I would have to say that they fit it just fine. Teachers dont' treat them any different and neither do the students. I think its cool. I woudlnt' want it being any other way.

I'd say it's probably pretty much the same...I still think people would be openly harrassed and beat up should it become known. Not a lot has changed that way. People still bully and make life hell for others...That's always been a part of schools. Maybe in general its more tolerated and accepted...but I still think a lot of people are out to get homosexuals sadly.

Yeah, i believe that today kids are more accepted for being gay then they were in the past. I know/know of many kids at my school or in my community who are openly gay and they are still respected and tolerated and even have many straight friends who do not judge them.

It's been many a moon since I was in school, but I can tell you it's still not something you want your friends in school to know about. Teenagers can be cruel over the most trivial things, and many of them, especially the males, absolutely hate 'queers'.
Also consider that one-third of teenage suicides are gay. There is so much shame put on them by their piers they cannot bear to go on.
Perhaps someday this will change.
