Well yes and no. If you can go to an automotive school and learn more about it then yes.
If you are just wanteing to earn some money then find an mechanic and work with him
You can learn alot for an as they say ( old timer)
I guess I am one of these old timer, as I have been repairing autos for almost 40 years.
When I needed more training I went back to school abnd learned what I needed to work on todays cars.
Go to the liberary and study books on all kinds of models. But I would say the best way is to go to a auto school

A good automotive tech can make a REALLY good living in this age of drive-by-wire, ultra high tech complex vehicles. The industry on whole is desperate for mechanics and auto-body techs that have the mental capacity to repair modern cars. The void is widening everyday and many, many companies are offering free training and school(s) for an ambitious worker that doesn't mind starting at the bottom for a short while. I know of several body techs that make over $100,000.00 per year and would be hired on the spot by any area body shops at any time. It is definitely a workers market and will only be more so in the next ten years. If you decide to go this route you need to start early in life as it does take a toll on your body. That way you will be able to retire at fifty and afford to pay someone else to work on your Porsche.

Auto mechanics, do not start out getting halfway decent money, they start out, making good money. You probably have noticed, the last time you had any work done on your car, it was a pretty good price. Auto techs, is a good job, you can even specialize, in fixing different parts of a car, as an electrical expert, or a tech who lines your car up, for you, that is a very specified career..
Mechanics will be in demand where ever you go, its a good career choice..good luck..

unfortuneately you don't make decent money at times unless you have some sort of guarantee or get payed hourly.... I find dealers only pay flat rate and unless you either specialize in big ticket items or screw people over, half way decent is all you get after 10 years...
Sorry to be so sour (But I specialize in electrical/driveability and those two are the worst for making money at).. But working in a good independant shop/ fleet shop that pays hourly or salary after getting the basics from a school is about your best bet... and as everyone says, get certified ..opens a lot more doors

the best thing to do is to get certified first because without certification no one will hire you
