And if you got just one piece bent, the thing was useless. Did you have to have the perfect angle and pitch on your stairs to make the thing work? I both loved and hated my Slinky. But the song rocked!

It walks the stairs without a care,
It shoots so high in the sky.
Bounce up and down just like a clown,
Everyone knows its Slinky.

The best present yet to give or get,
The kids will all want to try.
The hit of the day when you are ready to play,
Everyone knows it's Slinky.

It's Slinky, It's Slinky,
for fun the best of the toys!
It's Slinky, It's Slinky,
the favorite of girls and boys!

(Be honest, who just sang along while you read that? This may just be a question for us older folks.)

I'm sorry, Tavita! I meant "older than 18 or so" I should've specified!

Stretch Armstrong was awesome!

How about Sea Monkeys? What a ripoff! I looked through the little magnifying glass, and they weren't playing around or reading newspapers or riding carnival rides like the box showed. I was highly unimpressed.

I had one, and it DID walk down my stairs. Maybe yours were too wide or narrow? I'm sure they were closely calibrated to some sort of standard.... (ha)

The bad thing about Slinkys in MY opinion was if you put it near your hair (esp. if you had long hair). It got all tangled up and I had to pull half my hair out by the roots to get it out! (Of course, it was a pretty moronic move to put it near my head, admittedly...)

Thanks for the memories...I WAS singing the song !!

hahaha! I was so dissapointed as a kid when my slinky didn't go down the stairs like on the commercial. Then my slinky got tangled beyond repair while playing with it one day. Definalty one of those "much cooler in the advertisement" toys, but none the less, still much fun while it lasted. I couldn't help but mentally sing along with the song too. Such great childhood memories.

LMAO! Yeah I was singin along with that but I'm a teen and I remember that song as if it were yesterday! I agree with the "if theres a kink in it it'll never work again" thing but mine always went down those stairs perfectly :D Also, feel sorry for the people who got Slinkys for Christmas and birthdays...but didn't have stairs in their homes :( think of those poor unfortunate souls..

I love metal Slinky's. But you are right that they do not go down stairs as nice as on TV, but the sound they make is totally therapeutic. Plastic Slinky's suck. They always got tangled so easy.

The most memorable Slinky reference I've ever seen was in Ace Ventura down all of those stairs. It worked for him but By GOD it never did for me.

LOL. That slinky didn't go down the stairs and it always kinked up.

hahaha I started singing that song just reading ure main title.
I never got mine working properly. Think I must of bought at least 10 of them though, determined to get at least one of them down a flight of stairs without tangling up.
Wasn't childhood great

The original slinkies worked great.
Then they made them smaller (not so great) and after that switched to plastic.
