a big mistake

My answer assumes that you can afford to lose the $3000.
If you can't afford to lose it, then you should consider betting a much smaller amount.

It depends upon the odds. I see one web site with 2 to 5 odds on the US. So for your $3000, you can win $1200. I would guess these are fair odds, so I don't see an advantage for you. As a general principle, I hate to bet on something where I risk more than I can gain.

Maybe, someone is giving you better odds, like 4 to 5. I'd take those.

I belive you are willing to take the risk: if you lose, you lost $3000.

Strength of Team USA:
1. They got the best players in the world.
2. They have young and strong lineup
3. They got one of the best coaches in US history
4. They have good shooting skills.
5. Best guards.

Weaknesses:
1. Not used in FIBA rules
2. Not used in zone defense.
3. Team US is a very young team in term of playing with each other. Most European teams are playing with each other since college. More or less they played with each other around 4-6 years in the national team.
4. Has the tendency to "show off" or doing the highlights.

Good luck!

Never bet on sporting events.
They are unpredictable.
Teams and individuals performance changes day to day.
On January 12, 1969, the NY Jets beat the Baltimore Colts in the Super Bowl.
"Experts" said a Jets victory was impossible.
They were wrong and there were lots of losers!
Jets quarterback Joe Namath "guaranteed" victory.
Who'd a thunk it?

Not a great idea. The magnitude of the transaction would depend on your financial standing. If you are wealthy, then it may not be a BIG mistake. If you are living from pay check to pay check, then it could be a BIG issue indeed.

If it is your last $3000 it is a bad idea. If you can afford to lose $3000 it is OK.

Betting is always a big mistake, unless you know for sure what the outcome will be.
