I agree that it can be annoying. The reply should be the best answer that the person can come up with, sometimes they don't know the answer so the reponse can be in the form of more questions.

I'm gonna agree with that statement as I have noticed that myself, kinda doesn't give a good answer to a question so understandable that you would feel annoyed. Myself personally, I have never (so far) answered a question with any form of another question but in an attempt to answer your most recent question perhaps some people do not understand exactly what is being asked. I think I would suggest for that perhaps explaining your question a little better and trying to include enough information for another person to get the picture (so to speak). Although judging on this question I didn't require any other information so perhaps some people simply do not read the question properly before attempting to answer it.

I have four theories.

1) As someone else suggested, they're trying to find out more details about your question so they can offer a better thought out answer.

2) It's their personal communication style, not really meant as a question at all, the same way people end sentences with "you know?"

3) They're trying to use the Socratic method (maybe unconsciously) by asking related questions which you, yourself will answer and which will help point you in the right direction to answer your central question yourself. This isn't as rude as it can seem; some questions like "what do my dreams mean?" may be best answered by the person who is asking them.

4) They're being sarcastic.

You asked only one other question since you came to Y!A and the people wanted to know something about what you were questioning about. Apparently, they didn't know about the subject.

So if they are curious, they ask questions. A thoughtful person would not be annoyed, but helpful.

People ask you questions because they need more details to give you a better answer. Somtimes certain details in a question can really change the answer a person will give you.

Because people don't put details on their questions, thus, the replier cannot think of a fitting answer.

what are u talking about? lol just add details and tell them the answer...since they were nice enough to answer ur question...return the favor. then in about 10 minutes check their answer again...it mightve changed.
